When implants are surgically placed in the jaw, dentures can be retained more effectively. With this comes the freedom to eat and talk without the worry your dentures will slip out of place. With attachments called abutments, you’ll find it incredibly easy to remove your dentures in order to clean them.
Your custom-made dentures will be made to look completely compatible with your mouth and face. Your dentist will work with a dental technician, passing on specifications such as tooth shape, size, length and shade, so that a natural-looking set of dentures can be made for you.
Step 1) Consultation – Getting to know you is a really important step. We treat our patients as we would like to be treated ourselves. As well as answering your questions, we will also seek to alleviate any anxieties you might have about dental implant surgery. Every step of the treatment journey will be explained to you in terms you can easily understand – we don’t believe in dental jargon!
Step 2) Planning – We will establish where your implants will be placed, by taking scans and digital images of your mouth. This is done using our state-of-the-art CBCT scanner, which outputs an extremely accurate projection.
Step 3) Implant placement – Your implants will be surgically placed. A temporary set of dentures is provided whilst your jaw heals after surgery.
Step 4) Creating your dentures – Your dentures are made in the dental lab.
Step 5) Fitting your dentures – Once your jaw has fully healed we can invite you along to a fitting appointment.
Why should I replace my removable dentures with implant retained dentures?
As traditional dentures aren’t anchored in place with implants, your jawbone will shrink away overtime. This is because it believes it has become redundant, in the absence of having nothing to stimulate it. This can lead to dentures becoming ill-fitting, which can be accompanied by discomfort.
How many dental implants will I need?
Even 2 implants are enough to significantly improve the physical limitations experienced by individuals who wear conventional dentures. Once we have examined your mouth, we will be in a position to tell you how many implants will be required to stabilise your dentures in place.
